Should you be wanting to study to get an MCSE, you'll fall into one of two camps. You're either just starting to enter the world of IT, and your research tells you the industry has a huge demand for qualified people. On the other hand you might be someone with a certain amount of knowledge wanting to consolidate your skill-set with the MCSE qualification.

When researching training colleges, don't use those who reduce their costs by failing to provide the latest level of Microsoft development. In the long-run, this will frustrate and cost the student a great deal more as they will have been learning from an out-of-date syllabus which will have to be revised very quickly. Don't use training companies that are simply out to sell something. You deserve time, expertise and advice to make sure you are registering on the correct course. Don't allow yourself to be sold their standard course by some pushy sales person.

So, why might we choose commercially accredited qualifications as opposed to familiar academic qualifications obtained from schools and Further Education colleges? As we require increasingly more effective technological know-how, industry has of necessity moved to the specialised core-skills learning that the vendors themselves supply - that is companies such as Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA. This often comes in at a fraction of the cost and time. Essentially, the learning just focuses on what's actually required. It isn't quite as lean as that might sound, but the principle remains that students need to cover the precise skills needed (including a degree of required background) - without overdoing the detail in every other area - in the way that academic establishments often do.

It's rather like the advert: 'It does what it says on the tin'. The company just needs to know what areas need to be serviced, and then advertise for someone with the specific certification. They'll know then that all applicants can do what they need.

Have you recently questioned the security of your job? Normally, this issue only becomes a talking point when something goes wrong. However, The cold truth is that job security has gone the way of the dodo, for most of us. In actuality, security now only emerges in a rapidly increasing marketplace, driven by a shortfall of trained staff. This shortage creates the appropriate setting for a higher level of market-security - a much more desirable situation.

The computing Industry skills-gap in the UK clocks in at over 26 percent, as noted by a recent e-Skills survey. This shows that for every four jobs that are available around IT, there are only 3 trained people to fulfil that role. Gaining proper commercial computer certification is thus a fast-track to achieve a long-term as well as pleasing career. It would be hard to imagine if a better time or market state of affairs will exist for gaining qualification for this quickly emerging and budding market.
